Carnival Update – Good News & Bad

The bad news

When we took over Grindleford Carnival in 2015 we committed to a three year run which has now come to an end.

There was a disappointing turnout at the AGM with no one coming forward to take over running of Grindleford Carnival 2019. As things stand, for the first time in over 80 years, there will be no carnival day for the village.

There is still time to organise this year’s event which traditionally starts on the second week of June. As a committee, we agreed to hold sufficient funds in the bank account to be able to run an event this year if a new team comes forward. We have also prepared a handover pack containing contacts, insurance details, first aid information etc – essentially Carnival in  a Box! The Pavilion has also been provisionally booked. If you are interested, please contact either Matty or Kate.

Some carnival activities will be going ahead including Beth and Andy Marshall running the Junior Fell Race, Matt Heason and Ed Richardson organising the Senior Fell Race and Grindleford Primary School hosting its usual school disco.

The good news

Starting with just £100 in funds, we’ve been able to make a financial success of Grindleford Carnival over the last three years. This has meant sufficient funds to run each year’s event but has also allowed us to make a number of donations back to the village including Playing Fields Committee, Grindleford & Eyam Playgroup, Rainbows and Grindleford Primary School.

We now have a sum of over £2,500 available for good causes in the village. If you feel your organisation or group could benefit from some of this money, please can you email Matty or Kate with your requests by January 31, 2019. We will be allocating the funds in early February.
