Grindleford Community Shop Opens On Saturday 14th June 2014
It is with a slightly shaking hand that the Community Shop Committee are announcing that we have an opening date for the Community Shop.
The date is Saturday June 14th, and we will open the doors for the first time at 11 am. There will be some local music, some speeches, quite a lot of tea and cake and a proper ribbon with a very special Grindleford resident to cut it. Oh, and you can do some shopping! All the usual pop-up goodies will be there – Irene’s bread, Critchlow pies, home-made cakes, produce, jams and marmalades, greetings cards, and so on – plus a wide and good value range of everyday groceries and frozen goods. Irene is also making mini-pizzas for immediate consumption or to freeze so don’t hang about to get your hands on those.
After nearly five years it’s actually quite hard to believe we have got here.
We can save some reflections on how amazingly everyone has pulled together, what it will mean to our village and the church, and how we hope to make sure that it’s the place to shop for you, until the day. For now, what’s important is to invite you all to come along and join us in the celebrations.
We are so looking forward to seeing you all!
On this first day we’ll be shutting the doors at 5 pm so we can all go down the pub and carry on celebrating, but thereafter the initial opening hours will be:
• Monday to Saturday 8.15 am to 7 pm
• Sundays 11.30 am to 4 pm
There may be very occasional changes to this due to church events.
To cover those opening hours it would be great to have lots of people doing an hour or so’s volunteering each, so there will be opportunities to sign up on opening day. You don’t have to offer a regular slot if you would rather do an hour here and there to suit – we are pulling together the rota and the more people we have, the easier it will be, so we would love to hear from you.
After the 14th… it’s up to you…!.
We hope you will enjoy the project as much as we have. The next step is for all of us to share in our new village asset; you tell us what you want us to sell and we will do our best to sell it! All profits are ploughed back into the community.
With best wishes and a big thanks to absolutely everybody!
